FUNDRAISING One of the Irish Traction Group’s main sources of income is derived from donations received from its membership and also from members of the general public. Continued financial support is vital if the Group is to succeed with its aims of securing and preserving an important part of Ireland’s railway heritage. The Irish Traction Group is currently running two specific fund raising appeals. These are the “ITG Development Fund” and the “141/181 (B) Class Locomotive Fund”. The Group would welcome any donations, no matter how small, to these appeals. Basic information regarding both of these appeals is given below. Further detailed information on each of these two appeals, including details of how you can donate by post, can be obtained by following the appropriate links provided. Alternatively, donations can be made to both funds by using the PayPal facility. Simply click on the DONATE button below and follow the on-screen instructions. Donations can be made by using any major credit or debit card. Thank you. Can you help? ITG DEVELOPMENT FUND The Irish Traction Group’s latest fundraising appeal, the “ITG Development Fund” was launched at the end of 2008 to help raise funds to secure the long term future of the ITG’s collection of preserved diesel locomotives. At the end of November 2009 the ITG were forced to remove all of its rolling stock that had previously been stored at Inchicore Works, Dublin, to two new homes. 001 (A) class locomotive A39 was moved to the Downpatrick & Co. Down Railway, Downpatrick, Co. Down, whilst 001 (A) class locomotive A3R, 121 (B) class locomotive 124, 181 (B) class locomotive 190 and 201 (C) class locomotive C231 were all moved to the West Clare Railway, Moyasta, Co. Clare, for display at a new railway museum that is planned to be constructed at the site. In addition, 141 (B) class locomotives 146 and 152, which were subsequently secured for preservation by the ITG in May 2010 and November 2010 respectively, had to be moved to their new homes at the Downpatrick & Co. Down Railway (146) and the West Clare Railway (152) in November 2010. Part of this appeal is to help recoup the cost of moving all of these locomotives to their new homes, which was in excess of £30,000, and also to help cover their ongoing maintenance and restoration costs. Further details of this vitally important appeal are given here. You can make a one off donation using the button below 141/181 (B) CLASS LOCOMOTIVE FUND This appeal was originally launched to help raise the necessary finance to purchase of a representative of the 141 (B) class locomotives, and also a representative of the 181 (B) class locomotives, for preservation. Whilst the Group has now been successful in its aims of purchasing 141 (B) class locomotives 146 and 152, and also 181 (B) class locomotive 190, there is still a need for additional funds to help cover the cost of maintaining these locomotives. Further details of this vitally important appeal is given here.
